from Planning to Completion
The building at Schulstraße 18/19, in the heart of the seaside resort Ueckermünde, was acquired by Horst Drücker in 2003. Six holiday apartments and commercial spaces on the ground floor were established there.
In 2018, his wife Helga took over the building and began planning and renovating in 2019. In 2022, their daughter Tina Zeck and her husband Simon took over the business and completed the reconstruction and renovation work in the summer of 2022.
The former commercial spaces on the ground floor were converted into two additional holiday apartments, bringing the total number of holiday apartments in the three-story building to eight: three apartments with three rooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom, and five smaller one-room apartments, also with a kitchen and bathroom.
Particularly noteworthy are the two attic apartments, one with a single room and one with three rooms, which were modernized with dormers and double-leaf window doors.
These changes give the apartments an inviting atmosphere.
What concept lies behind the execution of the façade renovation?
The conversion, renovation of the house, and redesign of the façade were carried out by the architectural firm Planwerk Dipl. Ing. (FH) G. Pfeifer from Mr. Pfeifer’s idea, a clear vision for the design of the façade emerged.
He used the natural surroundings of the house, located in the heart of Pomerania by the Szczecin Lagoon, as his inspiration. This unique feature was used to shape the façade in line with this concept. The color of the façade was chosen to resemble the sand of Ueckermünde Beach.
Together with the painting workshop of Manuel Rackow, the perfect color for the façade was selected. Mr. Pfeifer even brought a handful of sand from Ueckermünde Beach to choose the color using a color fan.
The staircase railing at the entrance is tilted to resemble the stakes of fish traps or nets that occasionally protrude from the water in the Szczecin Lagoon.
In collaboration with master painter M. Rackow, a band featuring the "Ueckermünder Wave" was added to the façade, specially developed for this purpose.
This water-inspired band reflects the proximity to the Szczecin Lagoon and contributes to the unique design of the façade.
into the Region and the History of the Seaside Resort
Ultimately, a building has emerged that fits harmoniously into the region around the Szczecin Lagoon and the Ueckermünde town center.
This is emphasized by the chosen name for the holiday apartments – Haus Seebad Ueckermünde – which highlights the connection to local history and the unique charm of the seaside resort.
